ABOUT MEDICAL RESEARCH

Back to Main

Although there are many definitions, a clinical trial or research study is generally considered to be a biomedical or health-related research study in human beings that follows a pre-defined protocol. This is an interventional type study, meaning that you will receive a study medication, and the outcome will be measured.

Why Participate?

There is no guarantee that subjects will receive any benefit from participating in the study. Your ulcerative colitis might not get better or may even get worse while you are in this study. However, this research study may yield new information that could benefit patients with UC in the future by helping to answer questions about the efficacy and safety of this medication.

Voluntary Participation and Informed Consent

Participation in a research study is completely voluntary. In all research studies, qualified potential participants are first informed about the research study in detail. After receiving this information, all participants must give their consent in writing to proceed. Some research studies involve more tests and doctor visits than the participant would normally have for an illness or condition.
